What should I do if my subscription payment fails?

A failed payment can leave your subscription marked Overdue or Payment Failed. Check your billing details and any outstanding invoice as soon as you can.

Solo subscribers

  1. Sign in and select your profile picture, then Billing.
  2. Select Manage Subscriptions.
  3. Add a new payment method if needed, and make it your default.
  4. Check whether the billing portal shows an outstanding invoice or an option to pay it.

See Update your payment method for the card update steps.

Team and Firm subscriptions

Ask your organisation’s owner or billing manager to open Team Billing and check the payment method and subscription status. If a payment failed while adding seats, review the seat change again after fixing the payment method. The failed seat purchase does not send the new invitations.

Changed your card but still can’t access your subscription?

Updating a card may not immediately resolve an outstanding payment. Check the billing portal for the invoice status. If the payment has succeeded and access has not returned, contact support with your account email and the date of the payment. Please do not send card details.

On Standard Legacy?

A failed payment has a 14-day grace period. If that subscription ends, Standard Legacy cannot be restarted. See Standard Legacy plan: access and eligibility.
